New this season

En lo que va de temporada he empezado a ver dos series nuevas, una británica y otra estadounidense (¡igualdad!), y ya había hablado de las dos antes en el blog. Con dos capítulos emitidos de cada una, ¿qué tienen que ofrecer Atlantis y Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

So far this season I've started watching two new shows, one british and the other one american (equality!), and I'd talked about both of them in the blog before. With two shown episodes of each of them, what do Atlantis and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have to offer?

Cuando dicen que Atlantis es "de los creadores de Merlin" realmente quieren decir que es Merlin, pero en Atlantis. Y bueno, con nuevos actores. Pero por lo demás, es más o menos lo mismo. Un héroe con un gran destino por descubrir, con amigos patosos y divertidos para aliñar las cosas, y con otro punto de vista de la mitología (en este caso griega). No me malinterpretéis, no es la mejor serie de la historia de la televisión, pero es entretenida. Así que si lo único que queréis es pasar una tarde viendo una serie de aventuras que en ocasiones es graciosa, y no os importa que destripe la mitología griega, esta es vuestra serie. Sólo dos cosas: los primeros cinco minutos del primer capítulo sí que os van a sorprender, y desafortunadamente, a diferencia de Merlin, esta no incluye a John Hurt... "In a land of myth, and a time of magic..."

When they say Atlantis is "from the creators of Merlin" they actually mean is Merlin, but set in Atlantis. And well, with different actors. But otherwise, is more or less the same. A hero with a great destiny to be uncovered, clumsy and funny friends to spice up the things a little, and another point of view to mythology (in this case Greek). Don't get me wrong, it's not the greatest series in the history of TV, but it's entertaining. So if you just want to spend an afternoon watching a sometimes funny, adventures series, and you don't care about Greek mythology being ripped apart, this one is your series. Just two things: the first five minutes of the first episode will definitely surprise you, and unfortunately, unlike in Merlin, this one doesn't include John Hurt... "In a land of myth, and a time of magic..."

En cuanto a Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. bueno, si no te gustó Iron Man, Thor, Los Vengadores o cualquiera de esas películas de Marvel, puedes dejar de leer aquí. Pero si te gustaron, probablemente disfrutarás la serie. Hay referencias al Universo Marvel, por supuesto, pero no esperéis a Tony Stark dando la bienvenida a bordo. Sin embargo, sí que vemos a Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) e incluso a Nick Furia (Samuel L. Jackson) que tiene una de las escenas más divertidas por ahora. Quién sabe, quizás ahora que Cómo Conocí a Vuestra Madre está a punto de acabar, Cobie podría convertirse en regular. Pero el mejor regreso de todos es el de Clark Gregg como el Agente Coulson, que tiene una sencilla explicación para estar de vuelta, aunque probablemente haya muchos secretos ocultos... "Tahiti. Es un lugar mágico".

As for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. well, if you didn't like Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers or any of those Marvel films, you can just stop reading right here. But if you did like them, you will probably enjoy the show. There are references to the Marvel Universe, of course, but don't expect to watch Tony Stark welcoming people on board. However, we do see Maria Hill aka Cobie Smulders and even Nick Fury aka Samuel L. Jackson (funniest scene so far). Who knows, maybe now that How I Met Your Mother is about to finish, Cobie could become a regular. But the best return of them all is Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, who has a simple explanation for his come back, although there are most likely lots of secrets underneath.... "Tahiti. It's a magical place".
